A Little Sun Never Killed Anyone...

Sigh. It is sunny and 70 degrees in Long Beach right now. Only 11 days till we go. I still need to find a bathing suit. Looked this morning and just got frustrated. Tomorrow night, I will hit the big mall in Lynnwood. I hate shopping when I have to search. I want all the goodies to just come to me.

I finished my summer reading displays today. I will post pictures later, although they won't be much to look at until I get some reviews to put up there.

I got a message today from the P-Patch organizer inviting me to the next few work parties so that he can introduce me around. He also complimented me on the work I did on my plot. For someone who barely knows what she is doing, evidently I did ok. I can't make any of the work parties this month, since I work all weekend--Saturday and Sunday--and late on Tuesday. Hopefully next time.

The lack of sun and warm weather is surely what is keeping my veggies from taking off. The ones that I planted here at the house are still tiny, and it has been about 3 weeks now. I know some folks say that we are just whining about the same things every year, but I am cold!

Baby has Landed

The little one has joined us, with her wonderful smelling baby skin and cute little fingers. Sorry about the pic on the last one. I might get around to fixing it, but it is just a picture of the candle I lit.

I realize that my blog has become all about babies and Wii (don't they sound like they should go together? No?) My boss was saying today that he has to feign interest in babies. He says they all look alike, sound alike and poop alike. I suppose in a way that is true, but there is just something about babies that makes me love them. I think it is because they are still so unformed. There is no evil in babies. No jadedness or dark secrets. They just are, empty vessels waiting to be filled. They won't get f'd up till much later. As we all do to some degree or another.

I have no new Wii news at the moment, except that I hope to purchase Super Smash Bro's and maybe Karaoke Revolution in the next week or so. I promise that my Wii posting will slow down now. Babies however, are still growing, so I will be posting more on that.

Random Matter: I redid all my displays at the small library today. Someone checked out the two cornerstone books before I got the rest out there, but at least they gave me a good idea to go on. I have one display of books that talk about drug use--fiction--and another that has a supernatural cast. I asked teens to fill out a paper saying what mattered to them (drugs, std's, whatever) and put the slip in a box so it is all anonymous. I doubt I will get any...

My (Very Small) Teen Area

It was really hard to to get a whole picture, because there are lots of things in the way, like shelves and patrons. Here I have display on top with reviews stuck in the books. My own reviews seem to sell books the best, but sometimes I have to steal* them from various sources.

In this oddly angled shot, you can see that on the left is fiction, with display on top, then the manga and comics are under the window at the end:

And this is my display board at the other library. It is really nice to have this much room to work with there.

So there you go, pictures galore.

*Steal--meaning borrow, except I don't intend to return them...

What's Up, Buttercup?

That title just came into my mind, so I kept it.

I have my halloween display up, which makes me happy I don't work for a public school. They can't have anything "Halloween" and I just love the holiday. I am a pagen at heart. The only problem with our display is that it is in a glass case. It might as well be locked up. No one really sees it. I broke the rules and put a couple of books on top, but they haven't generated any interest either. On the upside, every book I have put on the Staff Pic's shelf has been checked out.

I started following up on my newsletter today. A week ago I sent out an October Teen Library news letter to all my community contacts--school librarians, community centers, etc. Today I sent out a couple of emails and tomorrow I start making phone calls. I am hoping to set up some classroom visits soon and maybe another book group--not that the first one has taken off. I am still waiting to hear from the school librarian at the Middle School about that. But she is definitely interested.

I have my first lunch table next week. Wish me luck!

Our russian trouble patron got himself ejected. The picture of him looked so sad. I don't want to deny anyone access to the library, and I think that people such as this gentleman need the place to go more than others. However, he was being disruptive and a little scary. Hopefully he will learn something from the experience.

It is a dark and stormy night...
