More Snow Pictures

Snowy Tree

There will be family pictures posted soon, but here are some more snow pictures to tide you over. There is one pretty good one of The Boy in the snow. It was a pretty day.

Right now it is ugly out--sand over melting snow covering the sidewalks and along the sides and middle of the street. It is really hard to walk in.

On another note, I think I am getting sick. Either that, or it was too much singing with Rock Band last night. We played with my sis and her boyfriend. Dr. T got me the game for xmas and it is the BEST PRESENT EVER! And he replaced my windshield wipers. Second best present ever. He is so wonderful :D I have never been with anyone this thoughtful.

Ok, break's ov-er.

Day 6

Going back to work today after 3 days off. Picked up The Boy on Saturday and did some shopping to stock up on food items. Had a nice impromptu holiday dinner with the landlords on Sunday. By Monday we were all stir-crazy, so we went out shopping. Let me just say here that there are a lot of idiots driving around out there. Almost none of the roads around our place were sanded or plowed yet, but people were out there in their light weight economy cars with no chains, sliding all over. And people do the stupidest things driving and walking in this weather. Dr. T has 4wd and his truck does pretty well in the snow. Some guy decided to walk across the street when against a red light right in front of us. Dr. T attempted to slow and the guy got the hint when we started fishtailing--but of course he ran across anyway. :P

Update: The Boy is sledding with his cousin today. I only have to work 11:30-5, which gives him just enough time to hang out for a while. Dr. T dropped him off and I drove little car to work. I hardly slipped at all--the most dangerous bit of my journey was behind a light weight car where the driver kept stepping on the brakes. It is ok to go slow, but brakes are for stopping at lights, not slowing down in the snow. I will pick up the boy after work and hang out with my brothers and step dad tonight.

Best get back to work. There are a lot of people in here today!

More pictures of the winter wonderland on their way.

Snow! Again!

This is little car. I call her that a lot. She gets me around and I have been loving her the last couple of days with the way she has gotten me around in the snow. She may be old, but she is a pretty gal, has lots of room and gets great gas mileage. I hope to keep her for(ever) a long time.

This is our street all covered in snow. I can barely tell in this pic that it is snowing, but there are tiny ice particles falling out of the sky. They are covering everything and making the compact snow and ice very slippery. I am glad we got home right after this started.

Looks like a great place to have a garden party. Oops, forgot to bring in the cushions... It was really cold, so seeing the light through the window reminded me that I don't really need to take pictures right now.

Earlier today, I made the trek out to Lake Stevens to pick up The Boy from his dad. The Boy's dad does deliveries of stock to stores, luckily of a rather recession-proof commodity, and The Boy helps sometimes on the weekends for a bit of spending cash. I hope he does better than he does on his chores around here... Then we drove to Snoqualmie Falls area to visit my mentee with the Juvenile Court system. The Boy had to wait in the office while I went, so I didn't stay long. I did get to deliver some cookies and books that I hope she will like and we talked for a little while about her options after she leaves Juvie. This is my third month knowing her and I think she is a good kid. She has a bad temper and hasn't had the best upbringing, but she is trying to right the first one and making plans to overcome the latter. I hope my visits and influence help.

SNOW?!?

OMG! More snow! In April! This is really silly and I want to know who to write my letter of complaint to. The sun should be shining and the birds should be singing--not freezing to death and falling off their perches!

This is great. Another reason why no one will go to my writing workshop tomorrow. Lovely. But hey, if they do show up, they can wax on about how beautiful (or annoying) the snow is. :P

Oh, and "It's Friday, I'm in Love" :)

OMG! Snow!

This is crazy! Snow in Seattle on March 26th! Maybe even more this weekend! Not fair :(

Anyhow, I wrote that last night and didn't have time to add anything, because I was baking a cake. That's right, I was being all domestic. It was an involved cake--not a box of powder that you mix with some liquid and get a middle of the road, good enough but not that great kind of cake. This one had lots of eggs that had to be seperated and whipped then mixed carefully back together. It is an orange sponge cake to take to my sis's tonight to complement dinner. I also candied some orange peals and made a light orange syrup to top it off. I will pick up some whipping cream on the way over there later. Yummy!

I like to take pictures (how is that for a change of subject--maybe I will take a picture of the cake tonight so there is a tie in...). I don't do it as often as I would like and I am truely an amature. I never took photography in school, and when cameras still used film, I rarely came out with good results. I have mosied my way through 3 digital cameras, finally splurging on a Canon Powershot S3 about a year ago.

I love taking pictures with it and have finally started using the video feature, which actually works quite nicely.

The sad thing is that since ROBBY has been declining in health, my photos don't want to upload to flickr. So I need to take them to another computer and do it, but that extra step is just not happening. My extreme laziness on display. And in my extreme laziness, I decided to order prints from costco, which I am picking up tomorrow. It took being too slothlike to move from one chair to another to get me to do something I have been meaning to do for months: order hard copies of some of my photos. For some reason, I could upload to costco.com... Of course, now I need frames! Time to hit the thrift stores.

Update on ROBBY. She seems to be fine as long as I don't turn her off or put her in hibrination mode. She has now spent 2 weeks being on, with the screen saver set to turn the screen blank after 5 minutes of inactivity. The interesting thing is that blank is not dark. Somehow this blank screen lights up my room like a night light. At least it makes it so I don't trip over the clothes on my floor on my way to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Stuff and stuff

I feel zombified today. Getting stuff done, but I know my brain isn't really present. I can focus on a task, but as soon as I am done, my brain goes back to being jelly. And I am cold, very cold. Wearing my furry winter coat inside, cold.

I have been less than good lately about about updating, I apologize. And I should mention that if you click on the picture in my last post, it will take you to my flickr page and show you all the wonderous photos of Nevada, Utah and the Step Out to Fight Diabetes walk that I took. I don't know why I put the last ones in there, but I am lazy and haven't moved them yet.

The new man is working out well. I get warm fuzzies thinking about him.

I enjoyed going through flickr today, looking for "teen" and "library" catagories. Most libraries have joined as a system or as a branch and have teen related pictures up, but don't have separate accounts for them. I am also finding, through the pictures, that many have very teen friendly areas, like ours at Central. I wonder if these are mostly central type libraries, or if some of the branches are as innovative with their spaces for teens.

It snowed this week on Saturday and it was beautiful. Then it turned to rain and things flooded...the road between my house and the beach fell down. It was sad. I hope the trail is still there, but I have little faith that it is. The road won't be fixed until Spring. Places south of Seattle have it much worse.

Snow and Openings

The snow has (mostly) melted and things are getting back to normal. There was an interesting couple of days of "wintery mix" as the Pop Culture diva noted, with lots of slipping and sliding on the part of cars, trucks and SUV's. Luckily, I didn't have to work through the bad part on Monday and Tuesday and Wedenesday was easy-peasy. That night the snow was beautiful though--but only lasted a couple of hours before it rained a bit.

I made it in fine to work on Wednesday, but it was slooow that day. There were a lot of homework questions and reader's advisory with parents for their kids.

Yesterday I sent in a resume and cover letter for a position at NHY. It would be nice to have almost full time and a permanent position and it sounds like it would be challenging over there, which is something I am ready for. I would feel bad leaving my community contacts in the lurch, but I am sure they will carry on without me.

I tried to go to the Isabelle Allende author reading at Town Hall last night, but I didn't get off until 8pm so they were full when we got there. I haven't been to a reading for a long time so I was dissappointed to miss it. Maybe next time.
